Why Propane Delivery Can Be Easier Than You Think

Propane use is on the rise, with one of the “hottest” areas in the Northeast region of the U.S. where more and more are moving away from fuel oil and turning to propane to heat their homes instead. That’s one of the areas subject to frequent below-freezing temperatures in the winter, so it’s no surprise considering it can heat homes faster and at a cheaper price.

It also makes sense that residents of Canada, where snow-blanketed landscapes and icy chills are common, often think about switching to propane for heating their homes more efficiently too. Yet there are still many people who are under the impression that getting propane delivered is a hassle. The reality is propane delivery is simple. Propane will also provide more adequate heating with less of an impact on the environment, and usually at a lower cost. You don’t even have to worry about checking your tank as your propane supplier can keep track of usage, provided you choose the right option.

Here’s how easy it is to get propane delivery.

Automatic or Will Call Delivery

There are typically two options for getting propane delivered, one is automatic propane delivery where the company uses a computer to monitor how much propane you have left and when you need it to be delivered. That you can be sure you’ll have propane, it will never run out and you won’t have to do anything at all. Another plus is that propane suppliers usually monitor the local weather conditions. So if, for example, there are multiple snowstorms and you need more propane than usual, that will be factored in to determine when the tank needs to be filled.

With most people busier than ever with not enough hours in the day as it is, keeping track of your propane use is probably not something you want to add to your long list.

The other option is known as will call delivery which would require you to schedule your own deliveries and keep track of how much propane you use. Obviously, automatic propane delivery is the more convenient option, making it far easier as you hardly have to think about it.

You Won’t Have to Worry About Forgetting to Fill the Tank Every Fall

If you’re set up with a propane company that requires you to call to get a delivery before the chillier season hits, it’s something that can often be forgotten. In fact, it can and does happen to homeowners every year. One minute they’re enjoying that “perfect” early fall weather and then suddenly there’s a drastic change, with the first snowstorm of the year or temperatures dropping precipitously. If you don’t stay on top of all of those tasks required to prepare for the cold like calling your propane company to fill it before chilly weather hits, you might not have enough propane in the tank to heat your home.

Suppliers can’t always drop everything to come out to your home and fill it up as fall is usually their busiest time of year, and many others are needing propane too. With automatic delivery, that’s no longer a problem. You’ll avoid the rush and the stress, knowing that your tank is filled and ready to go when you need it. There’s no need to remember to call for a delivery.

Cost Savings

With automatic propane delivery, you’ll save money over time as well. For example, if you’re on a will-call plan and run out of propane, the supplier is likely to require a leak test before they’ll refill it which can cost around $50. Then there is another fee if you need it quickly which could run as much as $200. With automatic delivery, since you don’t have to worry about scheduling deliveries, you’ll avoid those fees.
